Why financial crime detection and prevention matters: real stories

Between increasing regulatory pressure, higher expected standards and rising personal liability, it can be difficult at times for financial crime professionals to focus on the real reasons that complex compliance and enforcement programs exist, and why these dedicated individuals, from junior analysts to senior directors, endure very stressful jobs. It's vital that compliance professionals share and celebrate their communal successes large and small, whether that's finding out an aberrant transaction is actually linked to a perennial Ponzi schemer or financially trapping a human trafficker.
Why? Because these anecdotes help compliance, law enforcement, regulators and other professionals remember that there are real people behind the transaction monitoring data streams, both victims and criminals, and those decisions can reverberate far beyond a given institution to aid law enforcement in this country and even beyond the nation's borders. That is the reason ACFCS is asking professionals to send us your stories, with or without your names attached, so we can catalog and share these lessons, tribulations and triumphs to give guidance to those entering the field and a morale boost to staff at all levels.
Please share a story, lesson or incident that reinforces why financial crime compliance and enforcement matter to you using the form below, or contact Brian Monroe, Director of Content, to speak with him directly or schedule an interview. ACFCS will be sharing back your stories and releasing other content focusing on the topic in coming weeks.
