Cryptocurrencies have made a major impact in recent years, with the number of users increasing dramatically and valuations in the hundreds of billions of dollars. While some have derided them as a fraud or a fad, many others have seen their potential – Including both legitimate enterprises and financial criminals.

This Quick Tips will explore the current state of play in the cryptocurrency space, including the regulatory regimes around the world that govern these new systems. The presentation will cover:

  • Notable financial crime risks that are still present in cryptocurrencies, from their use by criminals on the dark web to fraudulent “initial coin offerings"
  • Guidance on recent developments in the US, China, South Korea, India and beyond.
  • Innovative applications of cryptocurrencies and the underlying blockchain technology in financial services and compliance
  • And more

This session is eligible for 1 CFCS credits (including attendance and review and completion of supplementary resources).
